Meet the Worlds Fastest Convertible – Hennessey Venom GT Spyder

So 2016 is the year of celebration for the luxury automakers! Soon after BMW released its VISION NEXT 100 concept car on its platinum jubilee this year, the American tuning house specialized in modifying supercars and sports cars of various car brands, Hennessey Performance Engineering, is coming up with the world’s fastest convertible car as a celebration of its 25th anniversary. Named as Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, the car with soft top will set new records to break Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse’s world record of 254mph (408.8kmph) set in the year 2013.

The proud man behind the wheels of Venom GT Spyder is the director of Ford Performance Racing School, Brain Smith, who performed this recording breaking action at the Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, on the 25th of March, 2016. Green signal to the record was given by Jim Lau, the technical director at Racelogic, an independent speed-testing firm.

John Hennessey, the founder of Hennessey Performance Engineering, overwhelmed with the achievement and record, said,< em class="dimText" “2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Hennessey Performance and I thought that this would be a special way to celebrate 25 years of making fast cars faster. I’ve wanted to test the top speed of our Venom GT Spyder, without the roof, ever since our coupe ran 435 km/h mph on the Space Shuttle landing runway at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in 2014. This was a great way to validate the technical excellence of our car which includes high-speed stability with an open roof.”

Based on the heavily tailored Lotus Exige chassis, the weight of the superfast convertible Venom GT is less than 1250kgs and it draws energy from the 7.0L V8 powertrain that churns out a top power of 1,451bhp @7,200rpm along with a menacing peak torque of 1,745Nm.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual tranny, sourced by Ricardo, provides energy to the rear wheels, wrapped in the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyre, which is the real cause behind the acceleration from 0-100kmph in less than 2.4 seconds. The Venom GT Spyder can accelerate to 0-321kmph taking less than 13 seconds of time.

Audi has garnered a good sales growth in the FY 2015-16 following its extreme rival Mercedes-Benz that has earned record breaking sales throughout the globe last financial year. With the launch of the all newAudi Q5 crossover the next year, loaded with latest technologies and features, the German luxury carmaker is expected to break its own sales records.
