The Mercedes G65, S65 and the S65 Coupe models received a very huge response all across the globe, and seeing this success it is no surprise that Mercedes made a decision to plonk the AMG twin-turbocharged V-12 mill into the bonnet of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet.

Mercedes cars are simply top of the line in many aspects when compared with other German counterparts. So it is no surprise that the Cabriolet has come to be one stunning beauty from the floor of Germany's biggest car manufacturer. The stunning beauty is a four-seater convertible that has some serious power and grunt to it. Though Mercedes has limited the top speed to 250 kmph, still the car is capable to hit the 100 kmph mark in 4.1 seconds. This is all thanks to the V12 and the engineers at AMG. But if you thought this could be a deal breaker, then Mercedes is also offering a Mercedes-AMG Driver's Package that will increase the top speed of the car to 300 kmph. Now that sounds pretty sweet, right?

Under the hood of the car is a familiar 6 liter mill churning out 621 horses and a whopping 1000 Nm of torque, all thanks to the twin-turbocharging system. When this much of power is available, one can easy make out that the car is a very effortless one to drive around city, and when it gets a free road on the highway, it can munch miles without you even realizing. But that is not it. As much a smooth and revv happy engine it maybe, when the foot is put down, the sublime roar of the car is something that will make your heart race faster and is absolutely unmatched by any car on the road. Interestingly the car gets a rear wheel drive rather than a front which is better if we look at it that way, but one could even argue that Mercedes-AMG should have had provided a four wheel drive for this car to make it a lot more exciting. The power from the engine is transmitted to the wheels via a 7 speed automatic transmission.

Making this car was not as simple as plonking the V12 in the chassis of the previous version Cabriolet. This S-Class beauty has been built completely new using lightweight materials in the construction to make sure that the weight of the car is exactly as the same as the outgoing version and also even with the reduced weight of the chassis and body, the car gets the same amount of strength and torsional rigidity. Even the suspension on the car is an air suspension one of a basic kind but the engineers have tuned it to provide better stability and reduce body roll as much as possible. The new electrical steering also tuned for the new body and this means the driver will be in complete control of the car and the car is also now a great handling one with high response to even the slightest change in controls.

But the car is not loaded only on the outside, but on the inside as well. The S65 Cabriolet gets everything from the stables of Mercedes-AMG that one could imagine. There is a HUD (Heads Up Display) which displays all the key information of the vehicle such as speed, Navigation, traffic information and the important necessity. There is also a touchpad surface which acts as the input as well as multimedia hub for the car. As for the driving comfort the car gets a lot of electronic driving aids with the car along with the usual ABS and EBD. It also gets various drive modes like Regular, City, Economy, Sports, Hill Assist, etc. There is also a Driving Assistance Package including a Distronic Plus System which is a cruise control system from Mercedes. Along with it there is Steering Assist autonomous highway driving and Stop & Go traffic crawling assist. There are also various warning systems, the new LED adaptable headlights and automatic braking features included in the driver's aid package.

Since it is a convertible, one has to mention the roof of the car as it is the most important and distinguishing feature of the car. The top is a soft top made up of three layered acoustic fabric with a Nappa leather and microfiber lining to it. The top is available in Dark Blue, Dark Red, Beige and Black colors which are made to order depending on the requirement of the customer or as to which suits the car colour the most. The entire process of the top coming on or going off takes a total of 17 seconds after the press of a button and it works up to a speed of 50 kmph.

The Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet has been unveiled in Europe and should be available in the United States soon in 2016 as it is a 2017 model. Following the United States launch, the car should be available in India as well in the second quarter of 2016 with an expected price tag of around INR 1.8 - 2 crores. This is a car that many people are waiting for and it sure is going to be a huge success just like its predecessors.
