It takes a lot of courage and guts to get to compiling a list such as this. The World over, many such lists have been attempted but then they ignited big controversies. Racing fanatics believe Racing to be their religion and the Drivers, their Gods. So an exclusion of one's favorite driver from any list comprising of 'Best Drivers' is considered a very serious offence, and people have time and again voice out their opinions. Especially on passionate subjects such as this.
The drivers here are not shortlisted on the basis of Championships won or Victories bagged. It's about passion. Yes, winning is a big part of the game, but more than that, it is the passion that the drivers bring to their races and passion, the fans can see in their eyes and in their driving, leading them to worship their idols.
Here is, according to us, a list of the Top 3 Race Car drivers:
Alain Prost
Topping the list is the French race car driver Alain Prost. He has four Formula 1 championships under his belt. Michael Schumacher is the only one who has overtaken him in terms of number of titles won. Alain Prost was the driver with the record number of Grand Prix wins between 1987 to 2001. He earned the nickname of 'The Professor' because of his intellectual perspective towards racing. One of his well-known strategies was not burning in his tyres and brakes in the initial laps of the race, but saving them for an all-out challenge in the finishing laps.
Nigel Mansell
No driver has been known to have fought as fiercely as Nigel Mansell to get into Formula 1 racing. And surely, no one has ever fought as hard as him to stand his ground. With statistics of 31 Wins, along with 32 Crashes, Mansell was extremely focused, aggressive and a daring driver, who wasn't scared of pushing the limits. He is considered to be one of the most famous drivers hailing from the United Kingdom. He won both the Formula 1 Championship of supercars as well as the Indycar World Series, the latter being his debut season of Cart racing. Mansell is the only racing car driver to hold both the titles together.
Dale Earnhardt
Better known as 'The Intimidator', Earnhardt was famous for his NASCAR career. He is undoubtedly one of the best NASCAR drivers, hands down. With a total of 76 Winston Cup victories under his belt, Earnhardt also won 7 NASCAR Championships, including one in Daytona 500. He earned his nickname of 'The Intimidator' because of his fiercely aggressive style of driving. In 2001, Dale Earnhardt got into a crash at Daytona 500, which resulted in serious injury to his skull, ultimately leading to a tragic death. Following that he has been inducted into many Halls of Fame.
