Porsche India Launches 718 Boxster and Cayman at Starting Price of Rs. 81.63 Lakh

The highly awaited Porsche 718 Cayman coupe and 718 Boxster convertible have finally made their ways towards the Indian market at prices of Rs. 81.63 lakh and Rs. 85.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively. Throughout the country, Porsche has started taking orders for the 718 Boxster and 2017 Cayman and have also started the deliveries too.

Paying homage to the 50s popular Porsche 718 sportscar with flat 4 cylinders, the 718 prefix have been added to the two models and since both the super babies come with 2-litre turbocharged petrol motors with 4 cylinders, a nameplate with 718 has been added at the back of both the models. However, if you think that downsizing the engine's figure is going to affect the performance of the sportscars, you need to reconsider again. The company has swapped the earlier engine with a turbocharged one so that the owner doesn't have to compromise on the performance front.

Though for the first time the company has claimed the quickness of both the 718s to be same, which has never happened before, the interested buyers have to shell out extra amount of money for the top-less model. The earlier models of the same were loaded with 3.4-litre, 6-cylinder motor, which was naturally aspirated.

Under the hood, Porsche Cayman and Boxster have 2-litre powermill delivering a power and torque of 298BHP and 380Nm, respectively. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed automatic PDK tranny and both the beasts can cover the mark of 0-100Kmph in 4.7 seconds (Cayman) and 5.1 seconds (Boxster), whereas the top speed counts at 275Kmph.

The company has also retuned the exterior by working on the chassis, where the front has been treated with larger cooling intakes, redesigned LED DRLs equipped Bi-Xenon headlights.

From the inside, the models have received new air vents and new dashboard (only the upper part) and the company has also blessed the 718s with a sports steering wheel like the 918 Spyder, which is 10% better and more direct than the previous one. The PCM (Porsche Communication Management) now comes as the part of the standard offering. Brakes too have been improved with retuned suspension. In terms of entertainment, Porsche has added an 8-speaker music system to the Cayman, whereas the same is limited to 6 speakers only in Boxster.

Sharing his excitement, the Director of Porsche India, Pavan Shetty, said, "The re-launched Cayman and Boxster are the sportiest of all time. It is remarkable how Porsche engineers have evolved the 718 concept to produce such outstanding increases in power and torque from the newly designed four cylinder engine, whilst managing substantial improvements in efficiency."

Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 will be in direct competition with Boxster whereas there is no nearby rival of Cayman, as in India, no other 2-seater sports coupe falls nearby this price bracket.
