Ford Mustang GT–The Story Unfolds

So finally the never ending wait has at last came to an end on the 12th of July 2016 – the day when the American car manufacturer, Ford, launched its much awaited Mustang GT pony car at a hefty price of Rs. 65 lakh. It's been 52 years since the Mustang came into production but the American brand never bothered to shift from left hand drive to right hand drive. Well now the company has changed its mind and for the first time, Ford introduced its much hyped model, Mustang GT, in India so that the car aficionados in India too can try their hands on one. After waiting for so long with bated breath, the craze to get behind the wheel of this car was so much that the first lot allocated for the Indian car market has already been sold out, as claimed by the company.

Back in 1965, Ford launched its first pony car – the Mustang – in US to capture the market by offering a vehicle that is powerful on performance like a supercar but is easy on pocket at the same time. Slowly and gradually the brand managed to become one of the strong pillars of the American automotive industry. The popularity of the car was so much that the company has sold a whopping number of more than 9 million units since its production. Last year the car made its way to the RHD markets and soon became the one of the highest selling sports coupe with a figure of 1.10 lakh units, sold alone in 2015. Though the car does not belong to the luxury gang, its features, aesthetic appearance, power-packed performance and sleek design will always make you feel like you are driving an exotic beauty.

The specs of the Ford Mustang GT for the Indian market will slightly differ from the one available in other markets. It comes with a 5.0-litre V8 engine under the hood that churns out a maximum power of 395.5bhp along with a peak torque of 515Nm. The engineers at Ford claims that the car is completely customized as per the Indian taste and can withstand an 87 octane fuel that is generally found in the Tier III cities of India.

The pony car which is actually a two-door coupe can accelerate from 0-100kmph within 5 seconds, thus leaving many German beauties behind. The biggest supporter of the powertrain is the 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox alongside steering-mounted paddle shifters. The vehicle supports 4 driving modes, which include Normal, Sport+, Track and Snow/Wet, wherein each mode is trained to deliver the power and torque as per the necessity.

Ford Mustang GT will follow the CBU route to hit the Indian market and may be this is the reason why the cost is a bit high. The main reason behind the launch of Ford Mustang GT in India is rumored to be the high potential that the brand sees in this market. The recent car buying pattern shows that soon the pre-owned luxury car market will be 1.3 times bigger than the new car market and it is expected to double itself by the year 2020, i.e., nearly 90,000 units will get sold a year.
