Right from Ford to Porsche to Mercedes and Audi, every luxury car marquee has rolled up its sleeves to take the fierce competition at a completely new level. Apart from introducing some of the most exciting concept vehicles to the world, these carmakers also took the opportunity to unveil their upcoming vehicles in the near future.
Here are a few important unveilings from the show that has kick started on 8th of January 2017 and will continue to amuse the world till 22nd of January 2017.
The Japanese luxury carmaker unveiled its 15th generation flagship sedan, Lexus LS500 at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show. The saloon is based on GA-L platform for luxury vehicles and come with all the modern technologies and features to compete with its extreme rivals such as BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It will be packed with a 3.5-litre V6 biturbo motor coupled with 10-speed automatic tranny, producing a massive power of 410bhp and 600Nm of torque. It can take a leap from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds.
Audi SQ5 is the flagship iteration of the recently unveiled 2017 Audi Q5. This crossover will be up for sale starting April 2017 but there is no official word on the pricing of the flagship model. The new beast in the family will be charged through a V6 TFSI motor churning out 350bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. With a sprint time of 5.4 seconds for 0-100kmph, the luxo-barge can attain a top speed of 250kmph, which make it one of the fastest crossovers available throughout the globe.
Right after being teased ahead of the Detroit Motor Show 2017, the highly awaited Mercedes-Benz GLA has seen the light of the day at the ongoing motor event. With some noticeable cosmetics update, the entry-level SUV comes with reworked interior. You can see work on bumpers, lightweight alloy wheels, refurbished LED headlamps in place of the xenon ones, and a tweaked grille. Infotainment system is now 8-inch in screen size and you will witness a chrome garnish throughout the cabin.
It will come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine throwing a power and torque of 376bhp and 475Nm, respectively. The engine is mated to a 7-speed SPEEDSHIFT gearbox and the luxury ride can propel from 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph.
Updating the latest model of its portfolio, Porsche has unveiled the 991.2 update for its hot and happening 911. The sportscar will now be available in both 2WD and AWD drive options in convertible, coupe and targa body styles. The GTS will draw energy from a twin turbocharged 3.0-litre flat six powermill that produces a power of 444bhp along with a torque of 55Nm.
The deliveries of the luxury drive is expected to start from March 2017, whereas in India, the 991.2 911 is expected to hit the market by the Q3 2017. The estimated price will be somewhere around Rs. 1.5 crores, including the custom and import charges.
With new front-end design, the all new 2018 Ford F-150 has finally been unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show 2017. To maintain the freshness and charm of the vehicle, it has been given a cosmetic touch, which includes redesigned tail lights and a new handle.
It will be powered by a V6 turbodiesel 2.7-litre EcoBoost motor that will be paired with a 10-speed automatic tranny designed and developed by GM and Ford. Not much features and details are out about the F-150 and we can expect more details later this year at the time of the official launch.
The company has unveiled its flagship coupe SUV concept, christened as Audi Q8. It is rumored to be more expensive than the current Q7 and will come with some noticeable future styles. The latest vertical design of the SUV resembles a lot to Mercedes-Benz AMG GT but is more aggressive than the latter. You will find Q8 with Matrix Technology headlamps, similar to the ones found in A6, A8 and R8.
It is a plug-in hybrid that will have a 3.0-litre petrol TFSI engine making 324bhp and 500Nm of power and torque, respectively. It will be able to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.4 seconds by capturing a top speed of 250kmph. It will enter into the production phase from early 2018 and will be available to the public soon after the company’s flagship SUV.
The company has unveiled its most expensive and fastest production car ever at the current Detroit Motor Show 2017. This 4-door grand tourer can produce a maximum power of 365bhp and a peak torque of 510Nm. The 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic tranny. It can sprint from 0-100kmph in 5.1 Seconds and was first unveiled 6 years back at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It will be up for sale from September 2017 in UK at an anticipated price of £43,000.
