“Never did the world make a queen of a girl who hides in houses and dreams without traveling”
The world has changed and so have we! Decades ago traveling alone for a woman was a big taboo in many of the societies, including India too. Another myth that still persists in our society about women is that they are the WORST DRIVERS. Well, we hope this myth will be debunked soon!
Continuing with the list that we left yesterday, today we would like to cover something special. Something that might attract the eyes of many! Where on one hand we will discuss the 3 Indian women who showed their courage to travel to London from Delhi in an SUV, on the other there are two men who set out to attempt a world record in traveling. Amazing! So let’s start:
Women Beyond Boundaries (WBB)
2 Continents, 17 Countries, 95 Days, 21,477 Kilometers
Nidhi Tiwari, Rashmi Gururaja Koppar and Dr. Soumya Gopinath are the three adventurous women who set out to explore the world of traveling in 95 days. The trio in their mid-30s decided to make their dream come alive and to show the world the power of women. The interesting thing about the three besties is that all of them are mothers but that didn’t stop them from chasing their long-time dream. And their ultimate companion for the long cross-border journey was Mahindra First Choice SUV.
The trio that is a part of WBB started their journey in June 2015 that came to an end in October 2015. The entire trip was sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Lenovo India, Mahindra First Choice Wheels, Tea Trails India, @Round Table India Area 6, Via.com, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital and SEEW (Social Empowerment by Empowering Women).
Throughout their journey, the all-female group stayed with the local families and had homemade food and in this way the POWERPUFF GIRLS maintain their faith in humanity. This journey comprised of 2 continents (or one can say 4, considering the transcontinental nature of France) – Asia and Europe – and 17 countries, which include:
Myanmar -> China -> Kyrgyzstan -> Uzbekistan -> Kazakhstan -> Russia -> Finland -> Estonia -> Latvia -> Lithuania -> Poland -> Czech Republic -> Germany -> Belgium -> France -> UK.

Nidhi, who was behind the wheel of Mahindra SUV throughout the journey, said, “Driving has been a passion. It is absolutely therapeutic for me to be behind the wheel. I have built my own vehicle almost 10 years ago. So, I had both the skill and the urge to drive in tough conditions.”
Two Stepbrothers and World Record Attempt
2 Continents, 18 Countries, 13 Days, 10,000 Miles
The two stepbrothers attempted to break the world record of 10 days, 3 hours and 16 minutes. Though they couldn’t achieve what they wanted, they end up gaining some precious memories and taming the roads less taken. Two men, Paul Hanson and George Coleman, with their Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 started their journey this year from 15th of January, which lasted till the 28th of January, 2016.
From London to Capetown, the route these brothers took was full of challenges but they overcame every hurdle and came out as true winners, though not on papers. The reason why they chose Land Rover for their journey was simply the easy availability of its service centers in almost every continent.
Their 1999 Land Rover Discovery Series 2 has a bullet-proof engine with R380 gearbox. The off-roader was modified to accommodate a diesel engine of 200 litres capacity with an electric pumping system. The brothers also added extra guards and protectors to fourfold the safety.
The 18 countries that Paul and George covered during their world record breaking attempt include,
London -> France -> Spain -> Morocco -> Western Sahara -> Mauritania -> Senegal -> Mali -> Burkina Faso -> Benin -> Nigeria -> Cameroon -> Gabon -> Republic of Congo -> Democratic Republic of Congo -> Angola -> Namibia -> South Africa.
The list will never come to an end as more crazy travelers will keep on joining the bandwagon to discover new stories. But as of now our side of list has ended. Some more interesting stories related to the automobile industry are waiting for you. Till then, Happy Reading!
