The World is not enough, clearly not in the fast lanes. If impressive quarter miles and top speeds weren’t enough, manufacturers are now making the ride placid with top-tier luxury demeanor. The new age four-door Sports Coupe not only can drive at a football field per second speed but also can do so with the luxury of sedan like space and comfort for a small family with 2 kids.

Though Mercedes-Benz introduced mid-sized luxury coupe CLS in 2004, it wasn’t until Porsche came out with Panamera in 2009, that the race in this segment really caught up. Soon after in 2010 British luxury marquee Aston Martin introduced its four-door, high performance sport saloon called the Aston Martin Rapide.

Based primarily on the Aston Martin DB9, the Rapide was built at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria till 2012. The assembly was then shifted to Gaydon in England, which made it all the more British.

With the wonderfully handcrafted, front mounted 6.0L, V12 engine, this beauty could do 0-100kmph in about 5.3sec. The 477 PS of peak power with a torque 600 Nm is delivered to the rear wheel through a Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft from a rear mid-mounted 6 speed Touchtronic gearbox.

In 2013, the engine received minor upgrades and showed an increase of 111 PS. While the CO2 emissions went down to 332g/km, the top speed saw a nominal increase of 3kmph from the previous model. The acceleration too, increased and the 0-100kmph now stood at 4.9sec, quicker by 0.4sec.

In 2014, the car received some more cosmetic and performance upgrades and the New Aston Martin Rapide S now comes with an 8 Speed Transmission, a very slight increase in the max. Power to 560 PS and another 0.5 sec quicker than the previous model. Magnificently this beauty now touches the triple digits speed in just 4.4 Sec.

With 245/40 R20 tyres in front & 295/35 R20 tyres in rear, the two stage adaptive “Bilstein” shock absorbers work effortlessly to ensure that the journey is smooth. With 6 Piston Caliper in the front & 4 Piston Caliper at rear (both Dual Cast) along with Conventional Cast Iron Brake Rotors on all wheels, the power in efficiently controlled.
