It sometimes feels sad to that the new Lamborghini Huracan has to live up to the name of the Gallardo, which is like the most popular and the largest sold Lamborghini till date. It is the only Lamborghini which made it into 5-figure sales figures. Of course, it was Lamborghini itself who made so many units of the car and discontinued to the others sooner, but still it does count to something.
Hence it becomes more important to check out the Huracan and see what it packs and how it plans to fare in the segment of the affordable of the Lamborghinis. The automobile giant definitely has made a lot of improvements in the old technology of the Gallardo, but still will that be enough to get the crowds to the Huracan?
Design and Looks:
The Lamborghini Huracan is undoubtedly the cleanest and meanest looking Lamborghini till date. Surely the other Lamborghinis might be feeling a bit jealous over the newest member of the family. But as mean it is from the outside, it is from the inside as well. It gets all the bells and whistles and the toys inside like leather seats, cool dash and a lot more.
It is something that might even remind you of an airplane, but the way it is made, it does stand true to the name it is given which stands for a "Hurricane." But as much as a hurricane it is from the way it looks, it even moves like one, disturbing the air around it with huge amount of power. The body of the car is made majorly of aluminum composite material and the frame is a hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber unit.
Engine and Performance:
The Huracan gets the 5.2-litre V10 engine that churns out 602HP of power. The car even with the smaller engine is still capable of good speeds as it tops out at 325kmph and can still make 0-100kmph in just 3.2 seconds. The engine has a high 12.7:1 compression ratio and gets both water and oil cooling system to keep it calm and stable.
On the suspension front, the Huracan gets an aluminum double-wishbone suspension that is firm and sturdy to hold the car steady, even at high speeds. The transmission duties are done by the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the car gets an all-wheel drive. The transmission is available only in automatic variant and there is no optional manual more present as well.
The tranny unit is tuned in such a way that it has a differential output depending upon the drive mode selected by the driver. The car gets multiple driving modes that allow the driver the comfort depending upon the road conditions and the mood as well.
Features:
The Huracan gets Pirelli rubber that makes sure the road grip is at the peak. The wheel size and tyre size on the front and rear though are different, which supposedly Lamborghini has tweaked for better performance because other than that it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to give different size front and rear tyres.
Other than that the rest of the features are pretty standard like ABS and ESP program and also there is traction control to keep the car from slipping under high and hard acceleration. The engine is located on the rear of the car, which has been the Lamborghini signature since the last some editions of the cars it has been releasing.
Safety Features:
The Huracan is no slouch on the road, but then it also packs really well when it comes to safety features. The deadly beast comes equipped with dual circuit brakes that are carbon-ceramic discs. It gets 6-piston calipers on the front and 4-piston calipers on the rear to give the car all the stopping power to keep the car under control.
And in case something untoward happens, then there are full size dual stage airbags for both the driver and the passenger accompanied by other lateral airbags to keep the rest of the body parts of the passengers safe.
Use in Official Purposes:
The Huracan is the Lamborghini incorporated into the Italian Police Force. The company along with the police force has come up with a custom Lamborghini Huracan after its previous two Gallardo were in a crash and hence have been decommissioned. The cars are fitted with the Police communication tools, cameras on the RVMs and the computer system on the rear of the car to record all the data.
The Huracan gets the Italian police livery and stripes and colors. It gets all the state of the art equipment that a police car requires, complete with the lights and siren. So it is a warning to everyone to do not try to run out the Italian Police, they will catch you.
The Lamborghini Huracan has been launched just recently but till now it has managed to do really well when it comes to sales figures. Till now Lamborghini has sold 2242 units of the Huracan with more to follow. Apparently Lamborghini has claimed that it only plans to produce about 10,000 units of the Huracan and if that is true then we surely will have another Gallardo success for Lamborghini.
So do not let the numbers fool you that it has a smaller engine and hence the car does not fare much when put against the flagship. Remember that when it was put to a track test, the Huracan came out faster than even the Aventador.
