Suave and sturdy vehicle carrying the power of a raging bull and supporting its sporty heart and bejeweled looks; the Lamborghini Gallardo is no wonder the most popular Lamborghini and the highest selling one too.
At the turn of this century, the German automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen, was developing a dream car under the flagship brand of Lamborghini. Finally, in 2000, it rolled the dice for this concept car under name "Lamborghini Gallardo".
Packed with the right amount of insanity and oomph factor, the Gallardo has become the unmatched king of the Lamborghini crown.
Fiery EXTERIORS with Cozy INTERIORS
Open roads are waiting for this raging bulls and the comfortable cabin with adjustable equipment settings is here to make your sporty ride a cozy ride as well. It is a sports car captured in the attire of swanky exteriors to support aerodynamics when you are flying in the top gear.
Rear wheel drive supports the powerful sports car's throaty V10 Engine, supported by front axle. This car moves on a steady pace and gives you feather control on the steering.
The engine has to get a special mention here since it is the base on which Lamborghini later developed the V12 beasts under the flagship Lamborghinis. The 5.2-litre V10 under the Gallardo is still no slouch as it pumps out impressive figures of 405kW of power and 540Nm of torque.
E-gears in the First Generation
Lamborghini Gallardo was ahead of its time in 2003 when this series was introduced, where the Electronic gears clubbed together with Semi-automatic Robotized manual. Experts at Lamborghini gave it the name of E-gear. This designed was based upon a Prototype of Cala (1995), Italdesign Giugiaro. The working of this system was really simple and was accessible with the switch of a button.
The gears would work in an automatic transmission system but there were paddle shifters provided on the steering of the car, giving the user the feel of the manual gearing whenever he/she wished for it. This system introduced back in 2003 set the Lamborghini apart from the rest of the competition, which in itself was very limited back in the day.
Faster Car CONVERTED into a MUCH FASTER One in 2005
Great designs are the ones that keep on improving with the passage of time. The Lamborghini Gallardo kept on changing the specifications with continuous upgrades over the years. During 2005, this car moved into its second generation with an increase in engine power. Lowering of the gearing also added smoothness in the operations and gave the car better acceleration and grunt, but still kept the top speed as it is.
This improved sports star was also a little quite in the terms of engine noise and improved the sound levels of the cabins considerably. Lamborghini used its own little piece of technology to make sure that the car remained quiet in the cities but had the ability to roar when required.
Reduced Weight & Shift in GEARS to Support the POWER of the Engine
By the arrival of the year 2006, Lamborghini Gallardo launched in a new AVATAR under the flagship name of Gallardo Superleggera. This time, the company did some remarkable changes in the design and brought the weight down by almost 100kgs. Automatic reviewing mirror was installed in the car and Engine power was increased to 530PS.
Right now there are more than 13,000 Lamborghini Gallardos on the road. During its journey of more than a decade, many special editions were launched and with each edition, it did a considerable amount of changes in the exterior and interior of the car to keep its freshness alive. The production of Gallardo Superleggera was called off in 2007 and a new series of Gallardo cars replaced it.
Gallardo LP 560-4 HERALDED a New ERA of Youthfulness in Gallardo Series
The engine became more powerful, it was 560PS at an RPM of 8000. Colors of the car also started breathing with a fresh air. With this speed, Lamborghini added safety in measures by introducing "Thrust mode launch control System". Direct fuel injection system was introduced to support the fuel efficiency and the speedometer started reading the count of 325 kilometers per hour.
Lamborghini Gallardo series is amongst the most successful sports "Concept Car" category. After achieving the highest engine power, it kept on improving this car further and introduced more than 15 limited editions. As it is a part of Lamborghini culture, the firm kept on reducing the weight of this car and made some necessary amendments to meet the local needs of various countries where it was supplying all these limited editions.
The Gallardo in total has 5 updated versions since the original launch as follows:
- LP 560-4 Spyder
- LP 570-4 Superleggera
- LP 570-4 Spyder Performante
- LP 550-2 Coupé, LP 550-2 AD
- LP 550-2 Spyder
And if that was not enough, the car got 17 limited and special editions. Currently the Lamborghini Gallardo is an evolved, tried and tested car that has clocked sales number of more than what the number crunchers at Lamborghini might be baffled about. With an appeal to enamor the sporty speedster, tuxedo-clad sophisticated hunks and aristocratic corporate citizens seeking a makeover to express their style statement with a fresh new youthful vigor, the Lamborghini Gallardo is really the car for them all.
Of course, it is not the Aventador or a Murcielago to be a flagship but this car was actually very close to heart to those who breathe cars. Sadly the production of the Lamborghini Gallardo has been stopped and it has been replaced by the much able Lamborghini Huracan and we are sure it too can keep with the great repute of the Lamborghini Gallardo.
